I’ve kept meaning to try this once I had the idea a few weeks ago. Today I finally got to actually setting it up. It requires patience. These birds don’t just flock to the feeder as much as the others though over the last few weeks they’ve become more frequent. The setup was pretty simple.
My Canon 60D with a PocketWizard III remote shutter control. I mounted my EF 100mm lens. I ran the camera in manual mode so I could control the shutter speed and depth of field. I put the ISO in auto mode to adjust for the overcast sky and for those times the sun tried to peek out.
I have to say the results were pretty good. The tough part was wishing that bird to land on the perch that I had focused on. Murphy’s law would indicate that it would land on the other one. It did.
